Groningen Centre for Health Law receives two YAG-SER grants for interdisciplinary research
The Groningen Centre for Health Law (GCHL) has received two YAG grants for interdisciplinary research and teaching. Those grants will be used to establish collaborations between the UG, the UMCG, the FSE and Campus Fryslân.
Legal epidemiology
The first YAG grant has been awarded to Dr Marlies Hesselman (chair of the GCHL), Dominique Mollet (LL.M.) (PhD student in International and European Health Law) and Monique van Cauwenberghe (LL.M.) (junior researcher in International Human Rights) from our faculty and Dr Jurjen van der Schans (assistant professor of Health Sciences at the UMCG). Together they will research legal epidemiology, “the scientific study of law as a factor in the cause, distribution, and prevention of disease and injury in a population”.
For this project, there will be interdisciplinary collaboration between the GCHL and the Global Health Unit of the UMCG. The project aims to find a way to measure the effects of policy interventions for smoke- and aerosol-free zones to fulfill children's right to health. It is linked to the goals of the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health.
Planetary health
The second YAG grant was awarded to Dr Marlies Hesselman, Dr Marjon de Vos (assistant professor of Ecology at the Faculty of Science and Engineering) and Dr Valentina Gallo (assistant professor of Epidemiology and Sustainable Health at Campus Fryslân). Together they will explore different conceptualizations and priorities regarding research around the topic of planetary health. They will also map that research within different UG faculties.
For this project, there will be interdisciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Campus Fryslân. The goal is to strengthen interdisciplinary research and education on this topic through literature review, interviews and a workshop at the House of Connections. This project is also linked to the goals of the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health.
