Work placement in Washington DC

Grant applications: Marco Polo grant

Placement periods: September - December or November - February

Application deadline for 2025/26: 31 May 2025

Minimum requirements: you need to be enrolled as a full-time student at our univeristy during the placement & you need to be proficient in English.

There is the opportunity to do an internship at a number of organizations in Washington DC. This programme is intended for advanced law students who are interested in the workings of the American legal system, the American political decision-making process, in international legal issues or current affairs. Each academic year, a maximum of ten students can take part for a period of three months.

Following a selection procedure in Groningen, potential participants will be placed with an organization in Washington DC. Further information on this, including the organizations involved, reports from previous participants, and the application/selection procedure, is available from the Department of Legal Theory Secretariat. Students will qualify for a Marco Polo grant, more information can be obtained at the International Office.
