When asked about an influential academic, many colleagues in European Law would probably mention Professor Joseph Weiler. Professor Weiler is a Professor at NYU School of Law, Senior Fellow at the Harvard Centre for European Studies, and former President of the European University Institute, Florence (2013-2016). He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of International Law. He is University Professor and holder of the European Union Jean Monnet Chair at New York University School of Law, where he is also Co-Director of the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice.
Prof. Weiler’s writings have formed the basis for debates on the role of law in European integration and until this very day he has been able to influence many of the discussions, for instance through his positions at leading academic institutions in the USA and in Europe as well as through the journals and conferences behind which he is a driving force. However, his influence reaches far beyond European and International law and the sessions on how to write and supervise a thesis in law have become legendary and caused many scholars around the world to rethink their approach to legal research.
Professor Joseph HH Weiler will be giving a series of lectures and workshops at the University of Groningen on 1-3 March 2022:
