UG students throw high light on World Skating Championships for students

From 10 until the 13 March the World Championships for students took place in Amsterdam on the Jaap Eden IJsbaan. No less than seventy students from seventeen different countries competed against each other. Among the participants were three students from the University of Groningen: Sanneke de Neeling (Biomedical Engineering), Femke Beuling and Sterre Jonkers (both Medicine).

The Dutch team became world champion.

All three students won a medal. Sanneke became world champion in the 1.000 meters and Femke took off with the bronze at that distance. Sterre won silver in the 3.000 meters and the 1.500 meters. She also became world champion in the team pursuit with the Dutch team.
