Boomstra European draughts champion

Last Monday, Roel Boomstra won the European Draughts Championship in Tallinn (Estonia). The 21-year old Physics student came in first with twelve points.

His opponents included three-times World Champion Alexander Schwartzman, six-times World Champion Alexander Georgiev and Aleksei Tsjizjov, who won the World Championship no fewer than ten times. Boomstra won three of his matches, while the other six ended in draws.

At the 2012 European Championship Boomstra ended in eleventh place; in the 2013 World Championship he won a bronze medal.
