NWO grant to study efficient spin-transport in graphene in corporation with India
A proposal entitled ‘Graphene Spintronics with Complex Oxides’ has been granted to researchers at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen, in response to a NWO-DST call on ‘Functional Materials’ for bilateral research cooperation between the Netherlands and India. The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, will jointly fund the proposal.
The proposed work will focus on using a unique combination of experimental, theoretical and computational methods to design graphene-multifunctional oxide devices and functionalize its interface with complex oxides for electronic (charge) and spintronics (spin) transport studies. This will enable in tailoring the multifunctional properties intrinsic to both these materials, at their interfaces, for devising new routes to study efficient spin-transport in graphene. The consortium is expected to serve as a launchpad in extending its scientific horizon for future collaboration between both countries.
The consortium comprises of four participating groups, two at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen, the Netherlands: Prof. Maxim Mostovoy and Prof. Tamalika Banerjee (with Prof. Bart van Wees), and Prof. Arindam Ghosh, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India and Prof. Tanusri Saha-Dasgupta at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India. A total of four PhD positions have been granted to the consortium (two at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials).
