Dr Bert Wiersema appointed member of the Ubbo Emmius Colleghie
Dr Bert Wiersema, business director of the Energy Delta Research Centre (EDReC;
www.rug.nl/edrec ), part of the Faculty of Economics, was appointed a member of the Ubbo Emmius Colleghie on Monday 30 October. This group of congress initiators from the academic and business worlds aims to strengthen the position of the north of the Netherlands as an international meeting point. To this end the Colleghie acts as advisor to the
Groningen Convention Bureau .
Wiersema has been invited to take this position of great honour in recognition of his efforts, together with the EDReC team, in organizing the first international Energy Convention 2005 and the second Energy Convention that will be held from 20-22 November 2006, both in Groningen. According to the Groningen Convention Bureau, Bert Wiersema’s efforts have made an important contribution to the concept of international conventions in the north of the Netherlands.
The inauguration took place during the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Groningen Convention Bureau, which will also include speeches by Frans Zwarts, the RUG Rector Magnificus, the Mayor of Groningen Jacques Wallage and Hans Alders, the Queen’s Commissioner for the Province of Groningen. The meeting was held in the NV Nederlandse Gasunie building.

During the second international Energy Convention, which will be organized by the Energy Delta Research Centre in November, energy experts from around the world will meet to discuss issues concerning the transition from the use of gas to more sustainable energy resources.

Veni-grants for ten researchers
