Research and Staff
Our music staff is internationally recognized as experts in their fields. Their research appears in leading international journals and with high-ranking publishers. Recent publications include books on European jazz culture, experimental vocal cultures, German popular music and national identity, the private experience of music in the nineteenth century, and contemporary theatre.
Our staff plays an important role in shaping popular music studies nationally and internationally, and holds leading official positions in the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) Benelux branch, and as members of the editorial team of IASPM@Journal. Recent and current research projects include: an NWO/KIEM “Gender Dynamics in the Music Industry” Internationalization grant, a Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowship for “ExiLives”, a “Popular Music and the Rise of Populism in Europe” grant funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health Fellowship for work with the Groningen Centre for Health and Humanities.
