Conversations: mundane yet complicated?
Every day, we are engaged in something mundane and at the same time complicated: having conversations. During this mini-lecture, you'll find out how fascinating the rules of conversation can be, when you start to pay close attention. In the field of conversation analysis, we uncover the machinery that underlies conversations and that we use, mostly unconsciously, to conduct conversations. By looking at everyday, engaging examples, we will explore questions such as “what do we do when we say something?”, “how is it that we can finish each other's utterances?” and “is there such a thing as a non-directive question?”.
Please note: this mini-lecture will be held in Dutch.
Please note: The festival programme, including the exact starting time of all events and activities, will be online at the beginning of September.
