Hardware and Software

Starting 1 september 2024, this faculty is implementing a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy for new students. This effectively means that students are expected to bring their own laptop to class. BYOD enables you to utilize the full potential of your laptop without dependance of computer labs and ensures seamless integration of personal electronic devices for academic purposes.

Make sure your newly bought laptop fulfills the recomendation as indicated below.

For students preparing to take the Master Artificial Intelligence, we recommend to use a Linux laptop with an Nvidia GPU, and discourage the use of AMD GPUs and Apple devices.

For students preparing to take the Master Computational Cognitive Science, the standard recommended requirements indicated below will be sufficient.

As a student a the University of Groningen, you may make use of Surfspot, which provides software and hardware for a student-friendly price.
