How to apply

The EngD programme Sustainable Process Design welcomes successfully finished Master graduates of Chemical Engineering and related Master programmes. The programme starts every year in September and runs parallel to the academic year.

Quality assurance within the EngD programme is very important for us, that's why all EngD candidates have to pass through a strict selection procedure.

General selection criteria
  • Hold a Master's degree of a relevant Master’s programme
  • Excellent marks on the diploma
  • Highly command of English language


In addition to the selection criteria, the following personal competences/skills are important:

  • Highly motivated
  • Creative
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Teamplayer
  • Communication skills

Open positions will be advertised on our website under the link open positions or on the vacancy webpage of the University of Groningen.

Application documents

In order to apply you have to send us the following documents: 

  • Curriculum vitae (CV) with passport photo
  • Master certificate with grades and courses taken (translated by the certification institute)
  • Course descriptions of the Master programme of the certification institute (University) with links to the course descriptions
  • Detailed summary of the thesis
  • Letters of recommendation
    Students have to hand in two letters of recommendation. These should be from academic staff or from the last supervisor(s). The letter can be scanned and send with together with all other application documents. If a referee insists on sending the letter directly, it should be sent to sustain.process.design rug.nl

Visa

In case a visa is needed: have a look at the information for prospective EngD trainees who require a visa and residence permit.

Application procedure

After sending the completed application documents, you will receive confirmation of receipt. The documents will be evaluated in time by the programme administration.

The selected candidates will be notified and invited for an interview with the EngD programme director and supervisors of the project. In case of a positive interview, you will be invited to a technical discussion with a short presentation of a technical project e.g. the Master thesis.
