EngD Funding

On 1 September 2024, Northern Netherlands Alliance or SNN (in Dutch Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland) awarded a subsidy to the University of Groningen (UG) for the  project “TONIC” (in Dutch Technologisch Ontwerpers voor Noordelijke Industriële Clusters) to support the development of the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) programmes Autonomous Systems and Sustainable Process Design, at the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

This subsidy takes place within the framework of the Support for Labour Market Transition 2.0 opening within the Just Transition Fund (JTF) 2021-2027 Subsidy Scheme

This subsidy supports the EngD programmes and the industry in the North of the Netherlands. This is done by subsidising part of the costs involved in the development of the EngD programme. Part of the costs paid by participating companies and invested by the UG are covered by this subsidy. In this way, this subsidy helps to bridge the gap between the academic community and the chemical/high-tech industry in the North of the Netherlands.

With the help of a high-quality and highly educated workforce, the Northern Netherlands region can further develop in the field of automation and robotisation of production processes, as well as in the field of further sustainability of processes within the chemical industry. Furthermore, this project seeks to enhance knowledge capacity in our region, with the goal of attracting innovative companies and thereby stimulating regional economic development
