Internationalisation, diversity & inclusion
Internationalisation has been an important focus in FEB’s long-term strategy for over a decade. This has led to significant results. FEB has developed into an international Faculty, where students and staff possess the skills, knowledge, and attitude to work together in international and diverse classrooms and academic community. We have extended our international corporate relationships and approximately 42% of our research output is co-authored with colleagues at international institutions. We offer an almost completely English-taught portfolio of degree programmes; almost 26% of the degree students in English-taught programmes are non-Dutch; annually around 500 FEB students study a semester abroad at one of our 230 international exchange partners; 35% of FEB’s academic staff are international, and more than 50% of our PhD students are foreign.
We continue to embed internationalisation throughout our organization. One such way to embed internationalization, has been to offer intercultural competence development to both students and staff. We believe this comprehensive internationalization is important as, in today's and tomorrow’s global world, it is fundamental that our staff and students have a strong international and inclusive orientation.
We also see that the diversity of our staff and student population goes beyond nationality, language, and culture, and we are increasingly aware of diversity in terms of gender, work experience, religious affiliation, socioeconomic background and more. Based on our experiences, as well as societal developments with regard to diversity and inclusion, we understand the need to broaden the scope of internationalization, focussing on diversity and inclusion in education and in the organization.
Diversity, inclusion and social safety are critical in our organizational culture and are key to empower our diverse community. FEB is therefore committed to fostering an inclusive environment, in which diverse individuals and groups can safely express their needs and experiences, where they are valued for their difference, and can achieve their potential.
At the same time, as an international Faculty, we have a clear regional and national role and impact. With our broad, international perspective and network, we aim to further connect the region with the world and vice versa, for example by participating in the University’s strategy regarding the 'University of the North'.
