Ulrike Schultze wins 2022 AIS Fellow Award

During the annual ICIS conference, Ulrike Schultze received one of the 2022 AIS Fellow Awards. This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the information systems discipline in terms of research, teaching and service.

Schultze is Professor of Business Information Systems at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). Her research explores the complex relationship between digitalization and work practices. In particular, Schultze seeks to understand what the socio-material practices associated with information technology produce, especially with respect to work-related and societal change. While she has studied the work practice implications of knowledge management technology and of Internet-based self-service technology, her more recent research explores the implications of social media on personal identity. Online protest movements represent a key empirical context in Schultze’s identity research. Her remaining digitalization research includes the shared platforms and the sharing economy.

Significant contributions

Schultze’s research has been published in leading Information Systems journals and she has served on numerous editorial boards of journals. Currently, she is a senior editor at the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, the Journal of Information Technology and Information and Organization. Before joining FEB last September, Schultze was professor in Information Technology and Operations Management at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, where she started out as an assistant professor in 1997 and became research professor in 2013.

Schultze is humbled and excited to be recognized as an AIS Fellow. “Past AIS Fellows, as well as the other recipients this year, are some of the most influential and iconic scholars in our field and many have inspired and shaped my own work. I cannot thank my teachers, mentors, coauthors, friends and family members whose support made this recognition possible enough. I am also grateful to the award selection committee and many of my colleagues and co-authors that nominated me for this AIS Fellows Award, particularly Dorothy Leidner, Cynthia Beath, Wanda Orlikowski and Olgerta Tona whose staunch support has been unwavering.”
