Ethics, responsibility and sustainability

sustainability in our education

Leading the way to a sustainable future

In today's rapidly changing world, it is important that universities equip you with the knowledge and competences to address the pressing environmental challenges we face. At the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), we have taken solid steps towards embedding sustainability topics into our education.

Sustainability in economics and business

Join us in creating a greener, ethical and responsible economy. Learning about sustainability in relation to business and economics will empower you to become leaders and advocates for change. That is why our courses are designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability principles, exploring topics such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), environmental sustainability, income inequality, social inclusivity, sustainable development, investing and production.

But we do not stop at theory alone. We provide ample opportunities for you to apply this knowledge and address pressing real-world challenges. For example, you can contribute to the health industry by coming up with innovative and sustainable solutions for: the scarcity of human resources in the face of rising demand for complex care, reducing operational costs without compromising the well-being of patients and practitioners or optimising the supply chains during health crises.

Wanted: responsible leaders

Graduates with knowledge and understanding of sustainability, ethics and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are increasingly sought after as companies recognise the importance of integrating sustainability into their business strategies and economic policies. After finishing your degree, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to address real-world challenges and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to address pressing global challenges, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation. At our faculty, we recognise the importance of preparing you to become responsible professionals who understand these challenges and can contribute to their solutions.

Across all our MSc programmes, there are distinct elements related to UN SDGs, depending on the main topic of study and research. Some students will write their thesis on a particular theme (as illustrated below) and others will take Focus areas or courses that will help them to pursue a career in one of these fields. Read more about the UN SDGs in our programmes.

BSc and MSc programmes

In all our BSc and MSc programmes, you will have the opportunity to study the impact of embracing sustainable business and economic practices on corporate and public policymaking. Moreover, we emphasise the importance of well-informed decision-making and effective governance at the individual, organisational, and institutional levels in fostering a thriving society and business environment. In some programmes, you have the chance to explore these subjects further and expand this knowledge.

What's more, MSc students can follow a focus area in*: Future prosperity and sustainability, Energy transition and climate change and Healthy society.

*Please note that only some MSc programmes have access to these options. Please check carefully the programme pages below.
