Alumni discuss role of women for social development projects
Date: | 15 June 2022 |
On 16 May, the RUG Alumni Network Amsterdam and the FEB Alumni Network successfully hosted an event at the Hermitage in Amsterdam. We were happy to welcome a diverse group of alumni that shared a common interest in the role of women for social development projects. The event was chaired by UG alumnus Ronald Schurer and opened by Robert Lensink, vice dean of the faculty of Economics and Business.
It was an inspirational evening that gave insights into how social development projects can be successful. It highlighted how women can take the first step in order to work towards social impact. Laurien Meuter, UG alumna of the year 2020, social entrepreneur and founder of Tiny Miracles shared insights on how her organisation structurally addresses poverty in Mumbai and how businesses and consumers are being inspired to join them in taking small steps towards bigger social change. Taking small steps to create social impact was one of the key messages and a positive encouragement for the event participants. Associate professor Nina Hansen, contributed her expertise on social development projects. Together, they discussed the impact of women on social development projects and thereby highlighted in a tangible way, how social initiatives and science can complement each other.
One of the strength of such alumni activities is the opportunity to connect with other alumni and experts of the field and exchange ideas and experiences. It brings people together and let’s ideas and partnerships grow. Therefore, we are happy that the event resulted in a future cooperation between Nina Hansen and Laurien Meuter, who in the future will give a guest lecture in Nina Hansens course.
Thanks to all speakers who joined the event and made it an inspirational evening.
