Welcoming Ceremony for our new Bachelor's Honours students
The Welcoming Ceremony for new Honours Students took place yesterday on 31 March. Out of 430 students, 342 students were admitted to the honours College. Admission to the Honours College provides our new students with the opportunity to join an array of talented students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and across disciplines.
The evening started with a short welcoming session where the students were greeted by our Vice-Dean, Peter Groote. Afterwards, our Dean, Hanny Elzinga, officially kicked off the event and shared her thoughts and expectations with the students. Our Study Adviser, Nick Nieuwenhuijsen, gave some information about the programme. Eva Pantelakis, our alumni, was our moderator for the evening.
After the speeches, the students chose the name of their cohort by using a poll and voted for ‘Wangari-Maathai’. A mosaic photo was created for the new Honours Bachelor’s students of the 2021 cohort.
The students participated in different in-depth power break sessions, and they also had the opportunity to learn more about the Honours College Social Association (HCSA) and the Honours Review. We concluded the official part of the evening with a toast to celebrate an exciting honours experience in the upcoming year together.
Afterwards, the evening ended in Gather Town (an online social environment), where the students socialized and got acquainted with fellow students. The students also had the opportunity to chat with the staff of the Honours College.
It’s our pleasure to welcome our new Honours Bachelor’s students to the Honours College family! We are thrilled to learn with them and from them!
