SURFfilesender

With SURFfilesender you can safely share large files (up to 1 TB). The uploaded files are stored in the Netherlands for a maximum of 21 days. Although SURFfilesender is safe as it is, users are able to opt for extra security in the form of encryption. Files up to 2 GB can be sent using encryption by sending the recipient a "key" via a second channel: telephone or SMS, for example. The recipient then enters this key, which allows him/her to download the file. In this way the user can determine who is allowed access to valuable research data or confidential files.

Guest use

SURF allows invited guests to use the File Sender service. This means you can invite external collaborators to send you data with a system trusted by your own university.
The steps to do so are quite easy:

• Go to SURFfilesender and log into the site by using your RUG Identity.
• On the top toolbar, click Guests and the window to invite guests will appear.
• Here you can send an email to an external mail account. The email will contain a link that will allow the external person to upload files onto SURFfilesender.
• You should give the email address of the account you want to invite to upload to SURFfilesender and you should set the expiration date (max. 60 days allowed). You can also add a short message to your email. We advise you to keep the rest of the form in its default settings.
• Once the email of the recipient has been specified, the Send Voucher button will activate. Click it when you are ready to send the invitation. When your guest has uploaded a file for you to download, you will be notified via email by SURFfilesender.
