Monika Schmid
Monika Schmid is Professor of English Language and Linguistics. Her research focuses on the development of bilingualism, in particular the acquisition of a second language and first language attrition. She has received various grants from The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, among which a Veni grant for quantitative research into German among German immigrants in the Netherlands and Canada, and a Vici grant for her research into the influence of age on the development of neurolinguistic aspects of bilingualism. She has published books and articles on different aspects of L1 attrition, among which Language Attrition (Cambridge University Press, 2011) and (edited with Barbara Köpke, Merel Keijzer and Lina Weilemar) First Language Attrition. Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Methodological Issues (Amsterdam: John Benjamins, 2004).
