Wadlopen/Mudflat hiking

When:Su 09-06-2024 14:30 - 19:30
Where:Haven 2, 9976 VN, Lauwersoog

Looking to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the northern Netherlands' coastal landscape? Join this year's Wadloop Event!

Wadlopen, or mudflat hiking, offers a unique opportunity to traverse the intertidal flats between the Groningen and Friesland coasts and the Wadden Sea islands. While these flats are submerged during high tide, they reveal themselves during low tide, offering a mesmerizing landscape to explore under the guidance of an experienced leader. Along the way, participants may have the chance to encounter seals and observe the diverse wildlife inhabiting this unique ecosystem.

Programme

Our expedition kicks off at Lauwersoog, where we'll board a boat bound for Schiermonnikoog, one of the islands in the Wadden Sea. Upon arrival, we’ll venture onto the mudflats for an exhilarating hiking experience. Our route will take us around the entire island, a trek lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. As we loop back to the southern side of the island, our return journey awaits. Relax, chat and unwind on the boat ride back, where refreshing drinks and a modest dinner will be served.

  • Transportation: public buses to Lauwersoog (Qbuzz Bus 163)
