UG-Macquarie joint call for cotutelle proposals 2025
Are you a researcher looking for a way to recruit a new PhD candidate? Do you have funding for part of a PhD position, but not enough to fund a full PhD position at the UG?
A double degree PhD, or “cotutelle”, with Macquarie University might be a way to do this. A supervisory team drawn from both universities, where the candidate benefits from time at both locations, and receives a PhD from both institutions upon completion. For prospective PhD supervisors who are able to pull together between one and two years of a UG PhD salary (approx. €60,000 - €120,000 in total), Macquarie University’s Graduate Research Academy (GRA) and the UG’s Department for International Strategy and Relations (ISR) are opening a joint call for project proposals.
Already have contacts and collaborators at Macquarie?
Feel free to go ahead and liaise with your counterparts at Macquarie to design a project that fits within your budget, and makes sense from an academic perspective.
Not yet connected with Macquarie?
If you have some partial funding that can fund the UG side of a double PhD position, but are not yet connected with Macquarie University, please take a look on their website to see whether you think there might be a match. If this is the case, you can contact ISR in order to be put into contact with the relevant colleagues at Macquarie.
Ready to apply?
For further information please take a look on My University for more details. Applications should be made by the UG supervisor, referencing their contacts at Macquarie. Upon pre-approval by the UG, the Macquarie supervisor is able to apply to Macquarie for their approval. Successful applicants will receive a funding commitment for the Macquarie component of the proposed cotutelle position, as well as further support in setting up the agreement and advertising to fill the position, in collaboration with the UG’s ISR and Macquarie’s GRA.
