Sustainability photo of the year

To celebrate the Green Office's 10th anniversary in October, we are organizing the 'sustainable photo of the year' competition. Everyone can participate! You can submit photos taken in 2023 or 2024.

Why a photo competition?

To involve students and employees in sustainability and to raise awareness about sustainability in our environment, we invite everyone to keep a close eye. What story do you think goes with sustainability? What strikes you?

Practical information

Everyone is welcome to participate in the competition, whether you are an amateur or professional photographer. Your photo tells a story about sustainability. This includes topics such as climate change and sustainable innovation. The jury will select one overall winning photo and three more photos in the following categories:

• University of Groningen

• City of Groningen

• Province of Groningen

The photo must be submitted before October 4, 2024. Each participant may submit a maximum of three photos (one per category). The photos must have been taken this year. More details about the participation criteria can be found at the bottom of the page.

What can you win?

The top prize for the winning photo is a four-day Interrail ticket worth up to €283 and the winning photo will be published on the Green Office website. In addition, vouchers of €75 will be awarded to the winners in the three categories. The winners will be announced during Sustainability Week.

The jury

The winners are selected by an expert jury. The Green Office makes a pre-selection and then presents it to the jury. The jury will first assess the photos individually and then reach a joint decision. The jury consists of:

• Daan Lijdsman: Sustainable development project worker at the Province of Groningen, with a passion for film and photography.

• Denise Jans: A professional photographer with a focus on sustainability.

• Reyer Boxem: An experienced photographer with several awards, including the Groninger Press Award and Silver Camera awards.

Participation criteria for the "Sustainable Photo of the Year"

General

• Open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages.

• Entries must be received by the end of the day on October 4, 2024.

• Maximum three photos per participant and maximum one per category.

• Photos must have been taken after January 1, 2023.

Technical Requirements

• All types of cameras are allowed, including smartphones and analog cameras.

• Artificial intelligence (AI) may not be used to take or edit photos.

• Digital entries must be in JPEG format, with a maximum file size of 199MB.

• Photos with watermarks or signatures are not allowed.

Ethics and Consent

• Photographers must act ethically and obtain permission from all persons depicted.

Copyright and Licensing

• Photographers retain copyright, but grant the Green Office a sublicense to use the photographs in connection with the competition and related activities for up to five years.

• Entrants must have original copyright or permission to submit the photos.

Digital Adjustments

• Allowable adjustments include color corrections and dust spot removal.

• Prohibited modifications include adding, moving, or removing objects.

Data protection

• Personal data is managed in accordance with the GDPR.
