Accessible education at the UG: panel discussion and signing of UN Declaration of Intent for studying with a disability
When: | Th 06-10-2022 11:00 - 13:00 |
Where: | Het Kasteel, Melkweg 1 |
During the Week of Accessibility, the UN Declaration of Intent for more inclusive education will be signed by UG Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga. Together, the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Gerry Wakker, the Advisory Committee for Disabled Students, and the TAG CoP ‘Inclusion and Diversity in Teaching and Learning’ are organizing an event to celebrate this occasion.
We will be exploring physical and digital accessibility and lecturer professionalization for inclusive education. In a panel discussion about inclusive education led by Carole Fuller, a member of the CoP, we will discover the experiences of those working and studying with a disability here at the UG. What are their experiences with regard to barriers in receiving and providing education? And how can lecturer professionalization be supported in a way that it truly contributes to eliminating such barriers? During the event, we will also display two films made by disabled students and the UG poet will share some of her poems. The state of affairs of physical accessibility at the UG and the launch of a reporting point will also be presented.
We welcome anyone who is interested in understanding accessibility, how to optimize it, and how lecturer professionalization can contribute to accessibility at the UG to join this event.
