In recent years, the self-determined end of life has entered the legal realm more frequently and intrusively. This complex and fraught topic is the subject of the Public Academy for Jurisprudence on 13 March. During this evening, we will look through a legal lens at all the issues surrounding assisted suicide.

The event will start at 7.30 p.m. and will end around 9 p.m. The location is the Lokin room (Lokinzaal) in the Röling building of the Faculty of Law, Oude Boteringestraat 18, Gromningen.

The speakers

Willemijn Krugers Dagneaux is a lecturer in health law at the UG and is conducting research on the topic op euthanasia in mental suffering. She will discuss more about what euthanasia and assisted suicide mean, how common it is in the Netherlands and when it is permissible for a doctor to perform euthanasia.

Prosecutor Diana Roggen discusses assisted suicide. Why is it punishable in the Netherlands? How does the Public Prosecutor's Office look at these cases? How do investigations proceed, what penalties can be demanded?

The evening will be led by Sander Dekker, reporter for Dagblad van het Noorden. After the lectures there will be room for questions. Please keep your questions general. During the Public Academy there is no room to address personal issues.
