Religion and wellbeing from an intergenerational perspective
Supervisors:
The relation between religion and wellbeing, especially for ethno-religious communities, remains fragmented and underexplored.
However, several studies indicate promising links between these concepts, for instance concerning the pressure and intolerance of religious expression in public spaces, meaning-making processes, identity negotiations, community building and integration processes (e.g. Sampson & Gifford, 2010; Stavrova et al., 2013; Graham & Grown, 2014; White, 2017). Furthermore, an intergenerational lens can shed light on generational and contextual differences in relation to religion and well-being (e.g. Speck 2012; Demeijer & Stoffels, 2019).
In this project, we will use a variety of qualitative research methods to uncover various links between wellbeing and religion among ethno-religious groups in the Netherlands. Besides experiencing qualitative data collection and research ethics in your sub-teams, we will work together on creative means of research dissemination.
