prof. dr. T. (Theo) Meder
Prof. dr. Theo Meder (Vlaardingen 1960) works at the Meertens Instituut in Amsterdam as a senior researcher specialized in Dutch folktales from the Middle Ages until today. He is supervisor on the Dutch Folktale Database and is involved in several computational humanities projects at the moment (FACT, Tunes & Tales). He is a member of several societies for folk narrative research: ISFNR, ISCLR (European member at large) and SIEF. He runs an e-zine (and a Facebookgroup) called Vertelcultuur, and is a member of the international advisory boards of Fabula and the Journal of the Folklore of Ireland Society Béaloideas. He published books about fairytales, (traditional and contemporary) legends and jokes, and wrote articles in international journals like Fabula, Folklore, Humor, Contemporary Legend, Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, Western Folklore, Journal of American Folklore and in the Enzyklopädie des Märchens. Since September 1, 2015, Meder is professor at the University of Groningen, teaching and researching Folktales and Narrative Culture from the Middle Ages until Today in the Netherlands in an International Perspective. In September 2017 Meder started a new project called ISEBEL (Intelligent Search Engine for Belief Legends) in cooperation with Tim Tangherlini (UCLA) and Christoph Schmitt & Holger Meyer (Univ. of Rostock / Wossidlo Institute).
