I arrived at the University of Groningen in January of 2021 after serving as an assistant professor of English at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. I hold a PhD in comparative literature from Yale and an MFA in creative writing from the University of California, Irvine, and I have been teaching university students since 2010, with prior teaching at colleges and universities ranging from Hostos Community College in New York City to Occidental College in Los Angeles. 

In my research, I work at the intersections of global Anglophone, hemispheric American, and multi-ethnic US literatures, with an especial focus on children's and young adult texts. My first book, Intersecting Diasporas, was published by SUNY Press in January 2021. My second book, Uncanny Youth: Childhood, the Gothic, and the Literary Americas, was published by the University of Wales Press in May 2022; and my third book, They Also Write for Kids, was published by the University Press of Mississippi in January 2023. Essays taken from these projects and other journal articles of mine have appeared or are forthcoming in ARIEL: A Review of English LiteratureArizona Quarterly; Children's Literature; Children's Literature Association Quarterly; Comparative LiteratureContemporary Women's Writing; Journal of Modern Literature; LIT: Literature, Interpretation, Theory; Modern Language Review; and Studies in the Novel.

I also write creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. My full-length poetry collection Sicilianas won the Lauria/Frasca Poetry Prize from Bordighera Press and was published in spring 2023; my debut novel, The Poison Girl, is forthcoming from Spuyten Duyvil Press in late 2024, and I am currently at work on my first middle-grade novel. My poems have appeared in journals including Colorado ReviewCrab Orchard ReviewPoetry NorthwestThird Coast, and Verse Daily; my CNF and short fiction have appeared or are forthcoming in ANMLY, DIAGRAMfailbetter, The JournalNecessary Fiction, ROOM, South Dakota Review, and elsewhere. I am the managing editor of Seneca Review and read submissions of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry for literary magazines including SR, Cutbank and CRAFT.
