Prof. Dr. Raingard Esser studied History and German Language and Literature in Cologne, where she received her PhD in 1994. She has taught History at Cologne, Giessen and Potsdam, at the LSE in London and at UWE Bristol before her appointment as Chair of Early Modern History at the University of Groningen in 2011. She is a specialist in early modern migration and memory studies with a particular expertise in the Low Countries and England. Her current interests focus on early modern border societies and coping strategies in times of war and partition.
