dr. R.G. (Rick) Pleijhuis
Dr. Pleijhuis is a medical specialist in allergology and immunology, currently serving as a staff member at the University Medical Center Groningen. He earned his MD and PhD from the University of Groningen, graduating cum laude. His doctoral research focused on near-infrared fluorescence imaging in breast cancer. So far, Dr. Pleijhuis has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles and participated in multiple research projects.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Pleijhuis serves as an innovator and entrepreneur. He co-founded Evidencio, a platform for medical prediction algorithms and decision support, and OSAsense, a screening tool for sleep apnea. He has led numerous projects in medical innovation, including "Innovation Friday" and "Boost Accelerator," and won the National Health Innovator Prize in 2023.
Finally, Dr. Pleijhuis holds governance roles in various committees, providing advice on medical education, policy issues, e-health, and medical innovation. Since 2022, he has also been serving as the Chair of the Quality Committee for the national professional association for Allergology and Immunology (NVvAKI).
