P. (Puck) de Boer, MA

Puck de Boer is a PhD Candidate in Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Groningen. She obtained a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology (2018-2021) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a research master (2021-2023) in Modern History at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.

She has been a research fellow at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome to work on her master thesis and PhD project proposal. Her master thesis, titled Risorgimento on trial: competing masculinities amongst volunteers of the Third War of Italian Independence, was awared the Werkgroep Italië Studies thesis prize in 2024.

Currently, Puck is doing her PhD in modern Italian history and the history of masculinity and violence. Her PhD project Trials of Honour. Masculinity, violence and emotions in the modern Italian military (1861-1919) was selected for the 2024 NWO PhD in the Humanities round.

Puck is also the editor-in-chief and board member of Jonge Historici, a publishing platform and network organisation for young historians in the Netherlands and Flanders.
