P. (Puck) de Boer, MA

Puck de Boer is a PhD Candidate in Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Groningen. Her PhD project Trials of Honour. Masculinity, violence and emotions in the modern Italian military (1861-1919) is funded through the PhD in the Humanities grant of the Dutch Research Council.
Puck obtained a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology (2018-2021) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a research master (2021-2023) in Modern History and International Relations at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. She has been a bursary student at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome to work on her master thesis and PhD project proposal. Her master thesis, titled Risorgimento on trial: competing masculinities amongst volunteers of the Third War of Italian Independence, was awared the Werkgroep Italië Studies thesis prize in 2024.
She is also part of the PhD Council for the Faculty of Arts, and the editor-in-chief and board member of Jonge Historici.
