Associate Professor 'Human Dignity in the Digital Age'; Programme Director BSc Data Science and Society; 'Data Autonomy' Theme Coordinator Jantina Tammes School; Deputy Department Head Governance and Innovation

Expertise

I see myself in the Humboldtian tradition combining inter- and transdisciplinary research, teaching, and societal impact. My academic work and passion are dedicated to the overarching theme ‘Human Dignity in the Digital Age’.

I study the transition from abstract principles (e.g. legal principles/human rights, ethical principles, policy principles) into more detailed and specific governance frameworks (e.g. human right to privacy into GDPR; ethical and standardisation principles to EU AI Act; policy guidelines for internet governance and data autonomy/sovereignty, or digital identity frameworks).

With my interdisciplinary background in law and philosophy, I work in the department of Governance and Innovation at the interdisciplinary faculty Campus Fryslân, where I serve as programme director of the BSc Data Science & Society.
