Nomdo Jansonius (1966) studied physics and medicine at the University of Groningen. He obtained masters degrees in physics (1988) and medicine (1990), and graduated as a medical doctor (1993). The research for his PhD project in biophysics was conducted at the University of Groningen (Department of Biophysics) and at the University of Cambridge (Department of Zoology). His thesis was entitled "Photoreceptor sodium pump and spiking neurons in the first optic chiasm of the blowfly" (1993). After finishing his PhD, he worked as a postdoc in physiological optics at the Laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology at the University of Groningen (1994-1995), followed by a recidency in ophthalmology (1995-1999) and fellowships in glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology (1999-2000). Postdoctoral courses were attended in epidemiology at the University of Leiden and statistics at the VU University of Amsterdam. Currently, he works as a professor of ophthalmology with special interests in glaucoma, perimetry, and physiological optics, and heads the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Medical Center Groningen. He was program coordinator of the EU-funded glaucoma research training programs EGRET and EGRET+ (2016-2020) and currently coordinates the EU-funded doctoral network EGRET AAA (2023-2027).
