M.S. (Michaela) Carriere, MSc
Drs. Michaela Carrière holds two functions:
- Diversity & Inclusion Programme Coordinator at the Office for Diversity and Inclusion (0,8 fte)
- Intercultural Competence Section Head and Trainer at the Language Centre (0,2 fte)
As programme coordinator for diversity and inclusion for the University of Groningen, she works under the Chief Diversity Office, and is responsible for the implementation of the programmes of that office. Realizing the depth of expertise necessary for competence to address cultural diversity (see below), she is particularly respectful of the depth of (un)knowing to address other diversity domains, advocating for perpetual learning in the field. The play of interface, both the overlaps and the unique contributions that each domain brings to the field of diversity, fascinate her.
As head of the intercultural competence section for the University of Groningen, she is responsible for the University's ability to master the complexities that internationalisation, and the concommittant hidden dimension of culture, bring with it. She addresses this through developing the range of programmes on intercultural competence (http://bit.ly/1S1FyId). She has been professionally involved in the field of intercultural communication since 1998. Personally, she has lived and/or worked more than 20 years international experience (with extensive experience in India, Indonesia, Burma, Bangladesh, the United States and now, the Netherlands). She is perpetually working on her dissertation research on ‘intercultural ethical dilemmas’.
