dr. M. (Marlou) Poppelaars
I am a behavioral scientist passionate about improving internalizing psychopathology interventions through an enhanced understanding of the various factors that play into disorder development. As a PhD-student and Postdoctoral researcher my projects focused on mechanisms in commercial and applied video games that may promote or assess mental health in adolescents. Within my current position as a Assistant professor at the University of Groningen I am continuing this work with a specific focus on the identification of those who stand to benefit most from internalizing psychopathology prevention programs. I believe that innovative theoretical, methodological, and intervention research is needed to lower the disease burden of internalizing mental health disorders in youth and I am excited to contribute to this with my own work. Furthermore, I enjoy fostering enthusiasm in students for both knowledge of behavioral science and academic skills.
