prof. dr. M.H. (Maaike) Nauta

Short Biography

Prof. dr. Maaike Nauta studied Clinical Psychology and Methodology at the University of Groningen.

She wrote her PhD "Anxiety disorders in children and adolescents: assessment, cognitive behavioural therapy, and predictors of treatment outcome" (2005, with distinction) in collaboration with the University of Groningen and the University Center of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, under supervision of Paul Emmelkamp, Agnes Scholing, and Ruud Minderaa. During her PhD, she got the opportunity to do an internship at Temple University with Prof. Philip Kendall. She did her research training at the national research school Experimental Psychopathology (EPP).

In parallel, she completed her clinical training as a Health Care Psychologist (GZ-psycholoog) and as a cognitive behavioural therapist, specialising in children and adolescents, and more specifically in anxiety and OCD.

Since 2008, she works as an academic at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology, starting as an assistant professor. She is now professor in Clinical Psychology, specialised in children and adolescents, and chair of the department since 2022.

Being a scientist practitioner, she also holds a clinical position at Accare, a mental health center for child and adolescent psychiatry. She works in a specialised team for anxiety and OCD and is the program leader of this theme for the wider organisation.
