I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands).

My research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of digital communication networks and social change, with a particular interest in online environmental politics. In my works, I combine the methods of network science and computational social science with theories of communication studies.

I have published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-impact journals such as Information, Communication & Society, New Media & SocietySocial Science Computer Review, International Journal of Communication, Convergence, Digital Journalism, Journal of Learning, Media and Technology, Policy & Internet, Javnost-The Public, Journal of Information Technology & Politics, and Media and Communication (among others).

I have received grants from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Netherlands eScience Center and the Digital Humanities Centre and RIS/ Data Science Centre at the University of Groningen, and scholarships from the Volkswagen Foundation, the Ryerson University, the Open University of Catalonia, and the University of Quebec in Montreal.
