Marieke Wichers works as a full professor at the dept. of Psychiatry, in the Interdisciplinary Center Psychopathology and Emotion regulation (ICPE), UMCG, Groningen. She published over 130 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Dr. Wichers has received her Master’s degree (Cum Laude) in 2000 at the Faculty of Psychology at the Maastricht University. In 2005 she received her PhD degree (Cum Laude) at the faculty of  Health, Life Science and Medicine (Maastricht university).

She has received several awards (student price Faculty Psychology, UM(2000), Kootstra fellowship (2005),Young Investigators Award (CINP 2006), Aspasia  grant (NWO 2012) and has received various competitive personal research grants under which a VENI grant (NWO); A fellowship of the Brain Foundation in the Netherlands and recently an ERC consolidator grant of 2,000,000 euro.  Prof. Wichers has visited several research groups abroad during her career (London, Institute of Psychiatry in 2000 and 2004; University of Barcelona, Faculty of Biology in 2006; Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics 2009-2010). Her current research line focuses on the mechanisms of psychopathology with a special focus on dynamic change processes and person-specific analyses.  She also works on the clinical translation and implementation of novel findings. Currently, she works on her ERC project that uses complex system theory and focuses on finding personalized early warning signals that anticipate critical transitions in symptoms.
