M.A. (Martín) Palazzolo
Martín Palazzolo is a Research Scientist (permanent position) at CONICET and National University of San Luis (Argentina). His research interests center around biomass biorefinery, with special emphasis on the (bio)chemical conversion of lignin into utility products. Martín got a Licentiate degree in Biotechnology (2008) and a PhD in Biocatalysis (2014) at National University of Quilmes (Argentina), gaining background in organic synthesis, biotransformations and bioprocessing. He has been involved in university teaching ever since. Interested in the production of bio-based chemicals, Martín designed a project for agro-waste biomass harnessing and conducted it as a postdoc researcher (2014-2018) at National University of San Luis (Argentina). Focused on lignin, later he expanded the scope by including pyrolysis and material chemistry concepts with trainings at University of Bordeaux (France) (2016-2017), and Washington State University (USA) (2020), supported by Erasmus and Fulbright fellowships. Since 2021, Martín is visiting University of Groningen aided by OPCW and CONICET funds. He conducts a project on the conversion of lignin into high-value products at FSE and ENTEG with the collaboration of Prof. Erik Heeres and Prof. Peter Deuss (Green Reaction Chemical Engineering), and Prof. Euverink (Products and Processes for Biotechnology). Recently, Martín has joined B-LigZymes –an international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral H2020 RISE initiative for lignin valorization.
