This PhD trajectory is about the wellbeing of newly qualified midwives in the Netherlands. Autonomous working in midwifery practice after graduation requires self-confidence and competence. In the studies we identified job demands and job resources in community-based and hospital-based midwifery practice. Furthermore, we measured midwives' wellbeing: burnout symptoms and work engagement and the determinants. We also studied differences between experienced and newly qualified midwives' wellbeing. The studies in this PhD thesis result in a support programme for newly qualified midwives in practice.
