L. (Liangliang) Cheng, PhD
Liangliang Cheng obtained his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alfredo Cigada. During his Ph.D. period, he focused on damage detection and localization using distributed fiber optic sensing technique. Afterwards he continued the academic research activities at The University of Sheffield as a Research Associate in the project “Structural health monitoring of a masonry railway bridge using novel sensing techniques” funded by EPSRC UK under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Zi-qiang Lang. Since 2019, he joined the Mechanics of Materials and Structures research group (UGent-MMS) at Ghent University in Belgium, as Postdoctoral Researcher, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wim Van Paepegem and Prof. Dr. Mathias Kersemans, to contribute to develop industrial non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques for damage and defect detection and characterisation in composite and 3D-printed structures in the project DETECT-ION (ICON). His research mainly focuses on the field of Non-Destructive Testing and Structural Health Monitoring (NDT & SHM), which involves the knowledge of, but not limited to, Dynamics and Vibration, Dynamic System Identification, Signal Processing, and Artificial intelligence.
