Léonie de Jonge is Assistant Professor in European Politics & Society at the University of Groningen. She holds a PhD in Politics & International Studies from the University of Cambridge (2019), an MPhil in Politics & International Studies from the University of Cambridge (2015), as well as a BA in International Relations from Cornell College, Iowa (2014).

Léonie is interested in right-wing populist parties in Western Europe. Her PhD focused on the success and failure of right-wing populist parties in the Benelux countries. Besides studying populism, Léonie is interested in European integration, comparative politics, party politics and (social) media research.

Born to Dutch parents in Luxembourg, Léonie is fluent in Dutch, Luxembourgish, French, German and English. She regularly contributes to the Dutch political science blog Stuk Rood Vlees. Her work has been featured on various news outlets, including NPO Radio 1 and RTL television (Luxembourg). She is also frequently consulted as an expert by international news sources such as the BBC, Newsweek and the Economist.

Léonie is an active member of the Young Arts Network (YARN) and the Young Academy Groningen (YAG). In 2021, she was elected co-chair of the Steering Committee of the ECPR's Standing Group on Extremism & Democracy, and in 2022, she was appointed member of the Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
