Expertise

Lolke Braaksma focuses on environmental- and nature conservation law. He is interested in questions that deal with reconciling socio-economic development with the conservation of ecosystems. Examples of questions are:

  • To what extent should it be possible to authorize new detrimental activities when it is likely that environmental and/or nature conservation objectives are not going to be met within the set timeframe?
  • What are the possibilities and limitations to curtail existing rights to pollute in order to meet environmental and/or nature conservation objectives?
  • To what extent are rules 'integrated' and 'holistic'? Integrated refers to the reconciliation of the use of ecosystem services whilst maintaining their integrity. Holistic refers to the idea that the environment and nature should be seen as a whole and protected as such.
