K. (Klaas) Damstra, LLM
PhD research project
Klaas Damstra (1994) is a PhD researcher on energy communities and electric vehicles as part of the NWO-funded Flexible Energy Communities (FlexECs) project. His research focuses on the societal issue of who benefits and is part of the transition towards electric vehicles. In particular, Klaas researches whether and how the legal framework on energy communities can ensure the involvement of low-income car-dependent groups in this "EV revolution".
Previous work experience
Before his position as a PhD researcher, Klaas worked at the University of Utrecht as a student assistant and junior researcher. At the University of Utrecht, he conducted research on inclusive bottom-up initiatives and the legal framework on the local energy transition (heat and electricity) in the Netherlands.
Education
Klaas holds a BA in History and an LLB in Law with a double specialization in Dutch Law and European and International Law from the University of Groningen.
He also obtained an LLM degree in Energy and Climate Law (cum laude) from the University of Groningen.
