Current position: Full professor of Immune Physiology, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and UMCG.

Full professor (‘bijzonder hoogleraar’ as of July 1st 2005) in Immune Regulation at the Department of Immunology, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus Medical Center, The Netherlands.


October 1997 – November 2014: Staff scientist at the Department of Immunology, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus Medical Center, The Netherlands.


January 1995 - September 1997: Staff scientist at the Division of Immunological and Infectious Diseases, TNO Prevention and Health, Leiden, with Prof.Dr. E. Claassen. Topics: Modulation of multiple sclerosis and EAE by CD40-CD40 ligand interaction; HIV-1 variant specific antibodies; contract research.


September 1993 - December 1994: Visiting researcher at the Department of Microbiology, Dartmouth Medical School, Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA, with Dr. R.J. Noelle. Topic: In vivo analysis of CD40-CD40 ligand interactions in B-cell responses and autoimmunity.


April 1992 - April 1993: Shared research position at the Department of Viral Pathogenesis, TNO Primate Center, with Dr. J. Heeney, and the Department of Immunology and Medical Microbiology, TNO Medical Biological Laboratory (see below). Topics: AIDS-pathogenesis and vaccine evaluation in primates.


PhD from the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, January 1992. Title of thesis: Antibody formation and follicular immune complexes: experimental and clinical analysis in situ.


July 1988 - September 1993: Researcher (tenured July 1990) at the Department of Immunology and Medical Microbiology, TNO Medical Biological Laboratory, Rijswijk, with Dr. E. Claassen. Topic: HIV-1 specific antibodies: 1. Generation of HIV-1 gp120 specific antibodies for structure-function relationship studies, using synthetic peptides. 2. In situ analysis of HIV-1 specific B cells


April 1987 - July 1988: Investigator at the Department of Histology, Medical Faculty, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with Dr. N. van Rooijen. Topic: Structure and function of immune complexes trapped in lymphoid follicles.
