G.J. (Gerjan) Navis
Gerjan Navis is internist-nephrologist at the UMCG and professor of Experimental Nephrology in the Department of Internal Medicine (2000). As of 2015 she also holds the endowed Chair Nutrition in Medicine, as part of the strategic investment program Nutrition and Health of the RUG. She is past president of the Dutch Hypertension Society and of the research Division of the Dutch Federation for Nephrology. She is a member of the Dutch Health Council (advisory body to the governement) and Chair of the Scientifc Board of the Dutch Kidney Foundation. She initiated several platforms for scientific developent of undergraduate and graduate medical students, including hte ISCOMS, now the largest congress for medical students world-wide. She heads a multisdisciplinary research group that works on primary and secondar prevention of cardiorenal damage, and pursues integration of concepts from public health (disease-overriding prevention) and clinical medicine (evaluation and follow-up) in establishing the concepts and practice of Lifestyle Medicine, in collaboration with partners from health care, and from the Aletta Jacobs School for Public Health.
