We study how the genome functions in stickleback fish adapted to different marine and freshwater habitats:

  • Single-cell gene expression and chromatin variation in adaptively diverging ecotypes of stickleback fish: how does environmental plasticity shape adaptive divergence molecular pathways and cell function?

  • Genetic basis of adaptive divergence in the epigenomic and chromatin regulation of gene expression: which molecular mechanisms are fine-tuned as organisms adapt and speciate?

  • How do fine-scale patterns of recombination variation among adaptive loci influence adaptive divergence?

  • What facilitates and constrains the speed of adaptation to new environments? the type, availability & linkage of standing genetic variation.
