My research is driven by the observation that mechanisms of chromosome segregation vary extensively between eukaryotes throughout the eukaryotic tree of life. My aim is to understand which molecular changes underlie this diversity. My focus for now is the kinetochore. Using a combination of comparative genomics, biochemistry and molecular cell biology I aim to elucidate the inner workings and evolution of this important mitotic machine in a wide variety of eukaryotes.
