dr. E.C. (Elise) Bennik

Short biography

Elise Bennik studied Psychology at the University of Groningen. After graduating the master Brain & Behavior with distinction, she started working as a PhD student at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Psychopathology and Emotion Regulation at the University Medical Centre Groningen (promotors: Prof. Oldehinkel and Prof. Ormel, dr. Bastiaansen and dr. Nederhof). During her PhD trajectory, she was introduced to longitudinal research (TRAILS) and research with intensive repeated measures (EMA) on the themes of depression, anhedonia, affect and minor and major life events, resulting in a thesis entitled: "Every dark cloud has a colored lining: the relation between positive and negative affect and reactivity to positive and negative events".

During the latter part of her PhD trajectory, she started working as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychopathology Department of the Heymans Institute of the University of Groningen. She was involved in research-related education and internship supervison. She supervised dozens of theses with diverse topics, such as emotional reasoning in contamination fear, anxiety and depression, belief bias, punishment and reward sensitivity, empathy and depression, and various risk factors and maintenance factors in depression and anxiety, such as self-esteem. From 2020 to 2023, Elise has been internship coordinator of the clinical directions within the Master of Psychology and Research Master, and from 2023 on she has continued combining research and teaching as assistant professor.
