dr. D.S. (Dineke) Verbeek
Dineke’s research centers on functional neurogenetics, with a focus on rare movement disorders. Her group aims to understand the genetic, molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie rare movement disorders such including ataxia. With this work, she seeks to contribute to improvements in current genetic diagnostics and ultimately to the development of therapies for these as of yet incurable diseases.
In addition, a new research line focusing on the professional identity formation of physician-scientist is starting up. This research seeks to uncover the fundamental values, factors, experiences & influences that shape and sustain the professional identities of medical students on their journey to becoming physician-scientist. Knowledge gained from this research will support the design of educational strategies aiming for the attracting, resrecruiting and expanding the physician-scientist workforce.
