Daniele is assistant professor in economic geography at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences (University of Groningen), where he teaches Economic Geography, Statistics I and Statistics II.

Daniele received his PhD in Economics from l'Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano (Switzerland) in 2018 with a thesis on the importance of geographical proximity in regional economic contexts.

His research focuses on the relevance of spatial proximity through empirical analyses and the application of advanced quantitative methodologies, particularly in the fields of regional and urban economics, economic and political geography. More specifically, his research interests include topics in the area of regional economics, economic and political geography, social and spatial inequalities (and digital divides), as well as formal and informal institutions, with a particular interest on spatial spillovers. 

In 2022, together with Dr. Viktor Venhorst and a fantastic team of student assistants, Daniele won the best practice in teaching at the Faculty of Spatial Scien-
ces at the University of Groningen with the statistics courses and has been nominated for the best practice in teaching for the whole University
of Groningen. In 2018 he was awarded the Epainos Award at the European Regional Science Association congress, a prestigious European prize for young scientists for the best paper in regional science. In January 2015 he successfully concluded the Swiss Program for Beginning Doctoral Students in Economics offered by the Study Center Gerzensee. In July 2014 Daniele won the Swiss National Science Foundation grant Doc.CH.
